Family Engagement in Language, Literacy, and Social-Emotional Well-Being

Hands & Voices is currently in the 3rd year of a U.S. funded project titled Family Leadership in Language and Learning (FL3). This project is funded by the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). Within this project is an objective to increase families knowledge in regards to Language, Literacy, and Social-Emotional Development. When families learn about their child being deaf or hard of hearing many report experiencing worries that may include their child; developing language, learning to read, developing friendships, having a good sense of self, etc. Surrounding families with multiple levels of support throughout a child's journey to language, literacy, and social-emotional development adds to positive outcomes. This session will include resources developed by Hands & Voices that attendees can access to share with families so they can support their child’s language, literacy, and social-emotional development.

  • Participants will learn tips to encourage family engagement in Language, Literacy, and Social-Emotional Well-Being.
  • Participants will gain knowledge of resources that can be shared with families to promote Language, Literacy, and Social-Emotional development for children who are deaf or hard of hearing.
